Should You Do A First Look?
Where me and my wife come from, seeing the bride from the night before the wedding onward means bad luck… Is it the same tradition in your culture?
We did not follow the tradition when it came to our wedding but plenty of our family and friends did…
Once the couple is getting close to their wedding day, they can decide if they would like to continue the tradition and enjoy this time as two individuals, to allow the time to prepare for the big day. And of course, to truly experience the charm of The First Look on the wedding day.
Times are changing fast and so are the ways in which couples decide to make their day unique. But how to choose what’s right for you and your future husband/wife?
There is no answer to this question, it’s individual to every couple and what their expectations and dreams are. We can only tell you what we have experienced in our journey as wedding photographers.
As your photographers, we will be with you the entire day, usually 10-12 hours and while that does sound a lot of time you will be surprised of how time flies on the day. We did noted that with the couples who did choose to do The First Look, this time put aside for the couple only, allowed intimacy for future husband and wife to be. A lot of people do not feel comfortable taking photos in front of the crowd even thought those are the people you cherish. First look session and time put aside for the couple alone, allows you to relax and truly enjoy the moment. If you think about it, this is the moment you have been waiting and planning for months in advance. It’s nice to have that time just for two of you to share in private before joining your family and friends in front of the altar.
It’s important to know that there are different types of the first look. Obviously first look with your future husband/wife is the main one. But there are also first looks with your parents, or individually mother or father of the bride/groom, first looks with your bridesmaids or best men before the ceremony or as a part of your preparations. Many people decide to do first looks with their children or their grandparents. There is plenty to choose from.
No matter what sounds as the best option for you it’s important to communicate with your team of photographers and videographers to ensure you plan the day as you would like and feel comfortable with.
